"APPENDAGES OF PRAWN"        

Habit and habitat of prawn(Palaemon malcolmsonii)-

It lives in freshwater streams,rivers,ponds and lakes.It is nocturnal animal.It is found in central India and Tamil Nadu.

Now we are going to discuss the cephalic appendages of prawn-   

Beginning from the anterior end of head the appendages are-

Antennules,antennae,mandibles,maxillulae,maxillae

Now starting from the Antennules-

• PRECOXA-Statocyst (organ of equilibrium) opens here.
• COXA       -Cylindrical in shape.
• BASIS       -Setae are absent here.
•                    -It carries 2 feelers(Antennae)-1)Inner feeler
•                                                                      2)Outer feeler
•                    -feelers bear sensory setae.

           Thus ANTENNULES are tactile(sensitive to touch).
